I will go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. — Psalm 43:4
The Service: Assisting the priest during the celebration of the Eucharist and other liturgical rites. This ministry is comprised of children and teenagers who are guided by adult coordinators to serve the SMTC and Parish Masses with discipline and devotion.
The Altar Servers Ministry is the training ground for the youth of our community, fostering a deep love for the liturgy from a young age. Under the careful mentorship of adult coordinators, these young servers learn the sacred traditions and the meticulous rituals of the Church. Their dedicated service at the altar during SMTC Masses and major Parish programs is a visible sign of the youth’s vital role in our spiritual life.
This ministry provides a structured environment where children and teenagers learn the value of discipline, punctuality, and teamwork. By participating in the liturgy so closely, servers gain a unique perspective on the Mass, often leading to a stronger personal faith and, in some cases, the discernment of religious vocations. They are the silent helpers who ensure that every candle, cruet, and book is exactly where it needs to be for the priest.
Participation in this ministry also helps integrate the younger generation into the wider Parish life. Because they are trained by the Parish, they are often called upon to serve at large international Masses, representing the Tamil community with pride and excellence. This experience builds their confidence and gives them a sense of belonging to the universal Church.
